Some evidence suggests that the steelhead has very slow ageing if it can return to the ocean after spawning [0014]. Otherwise it will age and die just like it occurs with the salmon. Telomerase activity has been detected in these animals [0017]. High mortality in streams in older fishes has also been reported [0442].
