Caenorhabditis elegansGenAge entry for bmk-1 (Caenorhabditis elegans)

Gene information (ID: 2100)

Symbol
bmk-1
Name
Kinesin-like protein
Organism
Caenorhabditis elegans (AnAge)

Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing

Observations
Overexpression of bmk-1 in worms resulted in a 25% increase in lifespan and enhanced heat shock resistance. Downregulation of bmk-1 using RNAi resulted in a 32% decrease in lifespan. Hsp-16 was upregulated in response to bmk-1 overexpression, suggesting bmk-1 may protect cells from stress and inhibit apoptosis.
% change in avg or median lifespan
Median lifespan is 25% higher.
