GenAge entry for Trxr-1 (Drosophila melanogaster)
Gene information (ID: 327)
- Symbol
- Trxr-1
- Aliases
- 2151; anon-WO03040301.185; anon-WO03040301.187; CG215
- Name
- Thioredoxin reductase-1
- Organism
- Drosophila melanogaster (AnAge)
- Known functions and activities
- Redox regulation and oxidative defence
Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing
- Observations
- Overexpression of glutathione reductase (GSR) in transgenic flies resulted in increased lifespan and oxidative stress resistance, but only under hyperoxia. Glutathione reductase is now recognized to be performed by thioredoxin reductase-1 (Trxr-1) since Drosophila do not have a GSR gene.
