These animals have been found to live up to 5.0 years [1307].
This species exhibits an accumulation of fluorescent age pigments. This accumulation happens at a faster rate in the first two years of life, but it slows down afterwards. Age related decrease in HSP60 expression and in catalase activity has been also observed. Furthermore, older oysters have been shown to have the same levels of expression of HSP70 and higher levels of expression of HSP90 [1379].
