As in other species of salmon, these animals normally age and die shortly after spawning. It is not considered ageing but rather sudden death. Although normally semelparous, the chinook salmon has alternative iteroparous life histories. Male jacks and parr mature early and parr can survive reproduction and mate again [0819].
