Saccharomyces cerevisiaeGenAge entry for MET17 (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

Gene information (ID: 1965)

Symbol
MET17
Aliases
MET15; MET25
Name
bifunctional cysteine synthase/O-acetylhomoserine aminocarboxypropyltransferase MET17
Organism
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (AnAge)

Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing

Observations
Knockout of MET17 (previously known as MET15), which causes only in a moderate defect in methionine biosynthesis, results in both longer maximum and median chronological lifespan. The experiment was performed in synthetic complete medium supplemented with 30 mg/l methionine, and the MET15 strain showed equivalent cell counts and comparable cell cycle arrest with the controls and met2 strain.
% change in max lifespan
Maximum chronological lifespan is approximately 115% higher.
% change in avg or median lifespan
Median chronological lifespan is more than 100% higher.
